Showcasing the Patina Potential of Kudu

Showcasing the Patina Potential of Kudu

We've had the Bliskavka Boot in Kudu on people's feet for a while now, so I wanted to share some pics I got of how this beautiful leather ages.

The first series are a pair that have been worn for several months. The rolls start setting in to the leather, and you start seeing some of the color contrast from the pull up effect that the high oil and wax content of this leather causes.

These next few pics are of my personal pair after about a year of moderate wear. You can see a lot of burnishing starting to happen around the boot tops, heel, and around the toe. The leather is a lot less waxy now, it almost takes on a nubuck look.

This is about two years of wear, I decided to give this pair a spruce up. I refinished the sole edges, and applied a very heavy, oily, conditioner. This brought back some of the original dark color and waxy feel of the hide. I don't have any pics handy of what they look after wear post-conditioning, but they started the process of lightening up again, especially at the flex points.

Below are several pics of the Tobacco Suede kudu. Suede is a bit of a misnomer here, it is a full grain leather, just the roughout side of the snuff kudu. These two pics are the shoes with about a month or two of regular wear.

The next two pictures are about a year of very heavy wear by my brother in law. These are his daily pair that he wears to job sites and everywhere else.

And what they look like after a little bit of TLC. I replaced the heels, refinished the edges, and gave them a very stern brushing! I'd say good as new, but they look better.
